چکیده

Heatstroke is the most severe form of the heatrelated illnesses and is caused by an excessive rise in deep body temperature due to thermoregulatory failure. It is characterized primarily by hyperthermia usually with core temperature above 40.6o C (105o F), central nervous system dysfunction, metabolic derangement and coma. Heat stroke is the least common but most serious form of heat disorder. It needs to be distinguished from heat exhaustion, a benign condition. Unlike heat exhaustion, it carries a high mortality if effective treatment is not given immediately (Table 1). Two forms of heatstroke exist, ‘classical’ nonexertional heatstroke (NEHS) and Exertional heatstroke (EHS).

Systemic Inflammation Mediates the Effects of Endotoxemia in the Mechanisms of Heat Stroke

Heat stroke is triggered by heat, but is driven by endotoxemia and the downstream effects of systemic inflammation, acute phase response and the pyrogenic response. Whereas heat stroke and its related fatality commonly occur at core temperature (Tc) >40°C, healthy individuals have tolerated Tc 40°C-42°C without symptoms of heat stroke, suggesting that besides hyperthermia, there are other facto...

Effect of dantrolene pretreatment on heat stroke in sheep.

Dantrolene is effective in the management of malignant hyperpyrexia. Due to the similarities of malignant hyperpyrexia and heat stroke, we have investigated the effect of dantrolene on heat stroke in sheep. Our study indicates that dantrolene pretreatment decreases the extent of heat stroke signs and some of the induced changes in enzymes and hormones. These results indicate that dantrolene may...
